  • Andy Horneman ( Founder, Music Give Life)

4x6-0312

Andy is a professional drummer/percussionist from Melbourne who has a passion for music performance, education and social action. Andy founded Music Give Life in 2015 when his mother Margaret Horneman was going through a terminal illness. After Margaret passed away later that year Andy reconnected with a long held passion and desire to make a difference in the lives of others suffering or doing it tough in the world. Whether that be from social disadvantage, Illness or difficult life circumstances. In mid 2015 Andy embarked on a journey with long time friend, musician and collaborator Levi McGrath to Ethiopia to see the work of World Vision and also connect with the LELT Foundation. Here with the help of the LELT Foundation the very first Instruments for Ethiopia campaign was launched. Since then we have seen the lives of young at risk children changed through the gift of music. Music Give Life works to continue expanding its programmes and delivering the gift of music into the lives of many people across Australia and internationally.

From working with former child soldiers in Uganda, to his role as Assistant Music Director with Melbourne Street Choir Inc. and the School of Hard Knocks, Levi McGrath is committed to music and social justice – and he wants to motivate and inspire a new generation of people to stand up and make a difference. Levi began his professional music career in 2007 with the release of his debut album Move, which saw two singles reach the Top 20 on the TRAA Christian Radio Airplay Chart. In 2009 Levi spent 6 months living in Uganda working with former child soldiers, this led to his critically acclaimed album Children of War – rich in passion for social change and heart-rending stories of suffering, hope and dignity.

Following a top spot at the Australian National Folk Festival in 2011, Levi won second prize in the Indie International Songwriting Contest, competing with hundreds of international songwriters, with two of his songs from Children of War making the top 5 in the Folk Category.

Levi has featured beside artists such as Building 429 and Darlene Zchech, has shared his music alongside World Vision CEO, Tim Costello, and renown US author/speaker Tony Campolo. He has toured Canada supporting former NEWSBOYS frontman, Peter Furler, and in February last year completed an Australian national tour supporting US Rock bands THIRD DAY and NEEDTOBREATHE.

Levi launched his third studio album COME HOME in March last year. Continuing with his powerful mix of musical storytelling and passion for social change, Levi has bought an exciting new sound to COME HOME  “I wanted to create a fun, up-beat record that people could tap their feet to and be inspired by at the same time”, says Levi. The lead single DON’T LOSE YOUR HEART made the TCM Top 30 Christian Radio Chart after 2 weeks airplay and hit No.7 on the Australian Hot 25 Countdown. His second single RAY OF LIGHT hit both Charts after only 1 week and also came in at No. 51 on the Top 100 for 2015. Recently released, BEYOND THE HORIZON made the TCM Chart in the first week of release and is currently climbing the Chart. Levi has just completed a 12 month National COME HOME TOUR, and will taking this Tour to the UK and Germany in July this year, those dates can be found on his website.

The future is exciting – as an Independent Singer/Songwriter, Associate Artist for World Vision and Assistant Musical Director of choirs for the disadvantaged and marginalised, there is much work to be done and music to be made, to help turn the tide of poverty, apathy and human suffering. On tour, at schools, conferences, festivals and in interviews, Levi continues to reach out with his message of positive social action.
